Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Martin Spalding is the Regimental Sergeant Major Permanent Staff Instructor (PSI) of the Third Battalion The Jamaica Regiment (National Reserve) (3 JR (NR)).  WO1 Martin Spalding joins 3 JR (NR) with a wealth of knowledge and experience having served as Regimental Sergeant Major of the Second Battalion The Jamaica Regiment from 1999 – 2004.

Martin Spalding was born in 1955 at Brandon Hill, St Andrew. He attended the Brandon Hill Primary School from 1962 – 1968, and later Oberlin High School from which he graduated in 1972 with passes in the Jamaica School Certificate Examinations. After leaving school, he sought civilian employment but would soon be enlisted in the Jamaica Defence Force in March 1974.

WO1 Spalding has had a progressive career which saw him winning a number of shooting competitions during his early years as a Corporal and attaining several key appointments as he moved up the ranks, such as Recruit Training Instructor, JDF Training Depot Sergeant Major, Permanent Staff Instructor, Drill Sergeant and eventually his current appointment as Regimental Sergeant Major Permanent Staff Instructor.

He also served overseas in Grenada and Haiti as a part of Operations “Urgent Fury” and “Restore Democracy”, respectively. He is a recipient of the Medal of Honour for General Service and the Medal of Honour for Long Service and Good Conduct.

WO1 Spalding is a devout Christian with his watchwords adopted from the JDF Training Depot’s motto “No task too difficult, no obstacle too great”.
