Members of the graduating class 09/01 in all smiles after
their graduation ceremony held at the Alpha 1 Base, Kingston.

The Jamaica Military Aviation School came alive on Friday 18 June 2010 with the graduation ceremony of four (04) members of the Jamaica Defence Force Air Wing who received their wings.

Lieutenants Craig Lewis-Mayne, Brandon Chambers, Joel Nelson and Jamie Walsh are the second group of graduates from the school.

After completing twelve months of gruelling training they have earned the right to be called pilots.

The course consists of three phases which began with the Primary Flying Training which introduces the students to flying, and teaches the basic handling skills for fixed wing flying.

After the first phase they then went into the four main flying disciplines of becoming a military pilot namely:  navigation, instrument flying, night and ceremonial formation.  Both Phase 1 and 2 are done on the Diamond DA 40 Aircraft.

The third phase of the course is the Rotary Wing training where students are taught the handling skills required for helicopter flying and the previously mentioned disciplines.   It is during this phase that the students earn their Military Wings.

“I am overjoyed with my performance in getting here,” said Lieutenant Brandon Chambers who was the recipient of the Commandant Award.

Chambers who is a past student of Saint Georges College said the course was very difficult but with the help of the team he was able to make it.

Chief of Defence Staff Major General Stewart Saunders said the graduates have embarked upon a journey to provide a critical service to their country.

He welcomed the graduates to the field of aviator and challenged them to make the best of the opportunity that they have been afforded.

The pilots will now take up duties at the Jamaica Defence Force Air Wing where they are required to “fly for all”.
