Every year on the 18 February, militaries around the world get together to celebrate International Military Sports Council (CISM) anniversary and to promote the practice of sports in the military. On this day, soldiers of CISM countries are invited to participate in a running event for peace.

CISM Day 2010 will be commemorated by the Jamaica Defence Force on
Saturday 20 February in Up Park Camp. The Day will be marked by a 1000-man 5K Run, a Six-a-Side Football match, Volleyball and Netball competitions. These are open events as the JDF encourages full participation.

CISM Day 2010 is one with a difference. This year the JDF extends the celebrations to the external communities and civilian teams from its operational areas. Teams from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), Jamaica Combined Cadet Force (JCCF), Tivoli Gardens, Seaview Gardens, and Special Olympics, among others, will be participating.

The International Military Sports Council is one of the largest multidisciplinary organizations in the world. It organizes various sporting events for the armed forces of its 131-member countries.
