EIGHT JDF OFFICERS SWORN IN AS JP’s
Eight senior JDF officers were on Saturday 05 September 2009 sworn in as Justices of the Peace for the parish of Kingston. They were among a group of thirty-one persons who took the oath at a swearing in ceremony at the St Matthews Church Hall, Allman Town. Those who pledged to carry out their new civic duties were: Colonel R R Meade, Lt Col D T Edwards, Lt Col P C Dunn, Cdr K A Douglas, Lt Col M H Neath, Lt Col A F Sewell, Lt Col T Leckie, Lt Col G S Rowe and Lt Col D A Cummings.
In preparation for their new roles, the Officers underwent twelve hours of instructions in legal matters delivered by retired Chief Justice of Jamaica, the Honourable Lensley Wolfe. In his address to the newly appointed Justices of the Peace, the Custos of St Andrew, the Honourable Weevil Gordon, charged them to be conscientious in the execution of their duties. He observed that the highest standards of conduct and integrity were hallmarks of a Justice of the Peace and that members of the public repose great trust in them. He pointed out that their appointment carries a great deal of responsibility and that they were to be circumspect at all times. He also urged them to be active in their communities and to serve the citizens well.
The function was attended by members of the Kingston Branch of the Lay Magistrate Association as well as families and friends.
