The People’s Republic of China continued its assistance to the Jamaica Defence Force with the recent singing of the Military Assistance Protocol at the Chinese Embassy on Monday 16 November 2009.

The Chinese Ambassador, His Excellency Chen Jinghua and the Chief of Defence Staff Major General Stewart Saunders put pen to paper in singing the Military Assistance Protocol. The programme, which has been in place since 2002, sees the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) benefitting from military aid courtesy of the Chinese government. The programme not only allows the governments of both China and Jamaica to build mutually beneficial partnerships, but also strengthens regional ties between both countries.

The assistance will see the Chinese Government providing the JDF with helmets, uniforms, boots, tents, binoculars and other logistics.

“As a responsible country, China unswervingly takes the road of peaceful development and purses an independent foreign policy of peace and a national defence policy of pure defensiveness,” said Ambassador Jinghua.

He went on to state that the Chinese Government is willing to persist in developing friendly relations, enhancing political mutual trust, conducting security cooperation and maintaining common security with its Jamaican counterpart.
