Even the inclement weather couldn’t prevent the Officers, Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commission Officers from battling it out in the Sports Extravaganza held on Wednesday
04 November 2009 at the Cricket Pavilion, Up Park Camp.
The inaugural event dubbed “Infantry/Flagstaff Officers’ Mess and Garrison Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess Sports Extravaganza” saw the staging of various sporting events, namely football, volleyball, 10/10 cricket, table tennis and dominoes competition between both messes.
A fierce battle in the opening game of the football competition; table tennis was the officers humbled the members of the Garrison Mess by beating them 1-0.
However, the Garrison Mess rebounded by winning the volleyball competition two sets to one.
The win gave the Garrison Mess members hope and this they brought into the next competition.
Were they trampled the officers’ 3-0 in the one sided table tennis competition.

With confidence riding high, the Garrison members went into the other competition eager to continue their success. This they did with ease as they swamped the officers 36-16 in the dominoes competition.
The final event of the day did not go on as the weather didn’t permit it. The rain came down hard forcing the players off the field.
Even though it rained, the event had a jovial atmosphere to it and this was obvious by the whistles, shouts and hoots that were coming from players and spectator.
Music for the event was provided by a local disco, “Natural Mystic”.
“The initiative was a Garrison Mess one and it was done to foster the good relationship with the senior leaders of the Force,” said Warrant Officer Class Two Anthony Lysight, President of the Mess Committee.
Because of the weather participants had to cover the cricket
pitch to prevent it from getting wet.
He went on to say that it’s not often that they get the chance to play and laugh in friendly rivalry.
It is hoped that this kind of sporting extravaganza will be an annual event where both messes can come together and have fun.
