OPENING OUR DOORS

Major General Stewart Saunders welcomes the members of the media to
the Jamaica Defence Force Up Park Camp

In an effort to be more transparent to the media and by extension the people of Jamaica, the Jamaica Defence Force for the first time opened its doors to various media houses on 12 March 2009 at its planned Media Open Day.

After they arrived at Up Park Camp, members of the mass media were welcomed at the Force Conference Room by the Chief of Defence Staff Major General Stewart Saunders. The unprecedented event saw the head of the JDF and selected Senior Officers presenting briefs and answering questions from the media.

They were up for an interesting day as they received a comprehensive tour of some of the JDF’s facilities, including flights to the JDF’s training facilities in New Castle and the Jamaica Military Aviation School at Norman Manley International Airport.

The gesture was welcomed by members of the media, who voiced the opinion that this was a long awaited opportunity for the public to see how the JDF operates be exposed to some of its other crucial tasks that would otherwise go unnoticed.
