Hurray! 100 NOT OUT

The Jamaica Defence Force is celebrating a significant milestone in its history with the training of its 100th Intake (group) of men since its formation in 1962.  One hundred and twenty-five (125) young men made their way to JDF’s oldest training camp, New Castle, St Andrew on 01 February 2009.

The Intake will do numerous training modules to foster the adaption of military attitude and bearing. As part of the training schedule, the young men will undergo fitness, drills, field and range exercises.

The Staff Course had to be relocated from the JDF Training Depot, New Castle, to Moneague Training Camp due to the disruption to the course caused by hurricanes each year which normally make the road to New Castle impassable.

The 168-year-old military installation at New Castle could see the final set of recruits being trained there, as the base will soon be surpassed by Moneague Training Camp, due to logistic considerations and other issues.

New Castle was given to the Jamaican Government by Britain as part of a general settlement of all military lands in Jamaica. Following Jamaica’s Independence in 1962, New Castle became the Jamaica Defence Force Training Depot.
