2009 Poppy Appeal
A Walkathon will signal the start of events scheduled by the Jamaica Legion to mark a series of fundraising functions in support of Veterans and Ex-service members of Jamaica. It will be held on Saturday 05 September 2009 at the Emancipation Park at 6:00 am.
The Jamaica Legion is the leading Ex-service charity protecting the welfare, interest and memory of Ex-service members, their families and dependants. It was founded in 1949, however, it did not host its first members until 1952. The Legion currently hosts fifteen members (fourteen males and one female); with the youngest member being 67 and the oldest 92 years old.
Each year the nation expresses its unequivocal support for the Legion’s work through its generous contribution to the Poppy Appeal.
The Poppy Appeal contributes towards helping Ex-service members especially those affected by World Wars One and Two. The Poppy has become a symbol of hope.
Other events include a Concert-in-a Garden to be held on Sunday 04 October 2009 at Curphey Place, Swallowfield, Kingston. It is hoped that this Poppy Drive will yield J$4.5M.
We ask you to give generously to the Poppy Appeal as we remember all those who have given so much for the benefit of all Jamaicans.
