New Guard at the National Heroes Circle
Completes Rotation of the Infantry Battalions
New Guard furnished by the 1st Battalion The Jamaica Regiment prepares to take up duties at the National Heroes Park.
A New Guard furnished by the 1st Battalion The Jamaica Regiment took over sentry duties at the National Heroes Circle,
in Kingston, from 2nd Battalion The Jamaica Regiment. The change over of duties was marked by a Change of Guard
ceremony on site on 17 February 2008. The Sunday afternoon ceremony was a public event to which Jamaican families
were invited. The performance by the Jamaica Regiment Band added colour to the Regiments drill display.

The drill ceremony marked the official completion of the rotation between the two regular battalions and the change over
of their duties, which began a few days prior. The relocation and change over of duties between the two battalions occurs
annually, during then month of January or February each year. This year the 2nd Battalion moved from Moneague Training
Camp in St Ann, to Kingston, and took over the duties previously performed by the 1st Battalion. Simultaneously, the 1st
Battalion, now based in Moneague, took over the ceremonial and other roles normally performed by the 2nd Battalion.
