Jamaican families are invited to attend public spectacle on Sunday Changing of the Guard at National Heroes Circle

A New Guard will be taking over duties at the National Heroes Circle.  The change over of duties will be marked by a Change of Guard ceremony on Sunday 17 February 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at the National Heroes Park, Kingston.  The ceremony will take the form of a public spectacle and the public is invited and view the soldiers executing their ceremonial drills. The ceremony will be for approximately one hour.

At the Change of Guard ceremony the 1st Battalion The Jamaica Regiment (1 JR) will be relieving the 2nd Battalion The Jamaica Regiment (2 JR) of its ceremonial guard duty at the National Heroes Park.

The change over of duties occurs between the two regular infantry battalions annually, over the period January to February each year, when they switch bases.  This year the 2nd Battalion moves from Moneague Training Camp in St Ann, to Kingston, to take over duties previously performed by the 1st Battalion.  Simultaneously, the 1st Battalion, now base in Moneague, takes over ceremonial and other roles normally performed by the 2nd Battalion.
