Commander Kenneth Douglas,
Commanding Officer Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard

Commander Kenneth Douglas was promoted to the rank of Commander (Lieutenant Colonel) and succeeded Captain (N) Sydney Innis as Commanding Officer of the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard. He had been serving as the Second-in-Command of the Support and Services Battalion at Up Park Camp for some two years when he was reassigned to the JDF Coast Guard.
A naval-trained Officer, he had served prior in several appointments at the JDF Coast Guard and had command of a number of Her Majesty’s Jamaican Ships which saw him captaining numerous voyages locally and overseas.
Commander Douglas is a graduate of the University of the West Indies where he completed a Bachelors Degree in Geography and Social Studies. He also holds a Masters Degree in Marine Management from Dalhousie University in Canada. He has completed further studies in Sweden, USA, Canada, Trinidad and Tobago. He has participated in numerous conferences and training seminars across the Caribbean especially in the field of marine environmental protection in which he specializes. He is the recipient of two Medals of Honour, to include the United Nations Medal, for his operational tour of duty in Haiti in 1993.
In 1999, he won the prestigious Admiral Doyle Award at the US Naval War College for writing the Best Research Paper. He has served as a member of Jamaica’s negotiating team on maritime delimitation to Honduras.
His interests are military history, swimming, gardening and reading. He is married and is the father of two children.
