The Naming and Commissioning Ceremony for HMJS SURREY

 

The Naming and Commissioning Ceremony for HMJS SURREY was held at the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard (JDF CG) Headquarters, HMJS CAGWAY, Port Royal, on Tuesday 26 June 2007 at 1730 hrs (5:30 pm).

Minister of National Security, Dr the Hon Peter Phillips, addresses the gathering at the recently held Commissioning Ceremony of the HMJS SURREY.

HMJS SURREY is the third and final Offshore Patrol Vessel of a fleet built by DAMEN Shipyards in the Netherlands for the JDF CG.   The vessel arrived in Jamaica on 01 Dec 06.   Dignitaries including Government Officials, members of the Diplomatic Corps and representatives of the Shipyard were in attendance at the ceremony.

Like her sister ships HMJS CORNWALL and HMJS MIDDLESEX, the sleek HMJS SURREY will be engaged in a range of operational missions such as maritime safety, maritime environmental protection and maritime law enforcement.  The vessel, is 42.8m in length, 6.9m in width and can attain speeds in excess of 20 kts.
