Regimental Sergeants Major
The Men Who
Ensure Military Discipline is Maintained
The Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) has many responsibilities within the Battalion
to which he is appointed. His unique distinction is derived from his
responsibility of commanding discipline within the Battalion for which many
junior ranks hold him in awe.
He has direct access to the Commanding
Officer and all officers in the Unit. He is under the direct orders of the
Adjutant and serves as his principal assistant in maintaining discipline and
smartness among the ranks. In this capacity, the RSM is the Commanding
Officer's and the Adjutant’s direct link with the enlisted men of the Unit.
The RSM pays strict attention to the conduct, dress and bearing of all ranks junior
to him and takes a personal interest in all young non-commissioned officers
and by his advice and encouragement endeavour to bring to the fore the best
in them. The RSM is expected to have a perfect knowledge of drill and
Standing Orders and must be prepared at all times to instruct young officers
and training cadres in these and others areas of military conduct. |
