Warrant Officer Class One Errol McKenzie, JP
Warrant Officer Class 1 (WO1) Errol McKenzie was appointed the top job in the enlisted corps as Force Sergeant Major (FSM) in January 2009. The appointment came as no surprise to WO1 McKenzie as he had been prepared for such a position, having served as Sergeant Major both at company and battalion levels. His most recent high level responsibility was as the Regimental Sergeant Major for the Bermuda Regiment, where he was seconded from Jamaica over a four-year period (2004-2008).
WO1 McKenzie is always striving for excellence and seeking to learn new things. He has completed several career development courses to include a Diploma in Supervisory Management at IMP, Certificates in Supervisory Management and Training Techniques at MIND, Computer Graphics at the Edna Manley College, and various other Information Technology courses
The Force Sergeant Major is respected as a meticulous career soldier who takes pride in enforcing discipline and ensuring exemplary behaviour among all ranks.
WO 1 Errol McKenzie was born in February 1956 in the parish of St Ann to parents David and Lelia. He attended the Chester Primary School where he gained passes in Jamaica Schools' Certificate (JSC).
After leaving school, he went to Richmond Llandovery Sugar Estate where he acquired the skill as a Welder and started his Welding career at Reginald Aiken Company. He enlisted into the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) in March 1975 and progressed steadily through the ranks, to attaining his current position.
The FSM has attended and successfully completed several military courses, which include the Junior and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Cadres, in which he received the Best Student and Second Runner-up Best Student Awards, respectively; All Arms Advance Drill Course (UK),where he received distinction; Service Fund Accounting Course; Law of Armed Conflict Instructors' Course (Trinidad and Tobago); Waterborne Operations-Trainers' Course (Puerto Rico); and The Humanitarian Challenge, Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons Course (Canada).
WO1 McKenzie has served in various units and has held several appointments in the JDF. In the First Battalion The Jamaica Regiment (1JR) he served from Section Commander to Company Sergeant Major (CSM). He represented that Battalion in Shooting and Swimming Competitions. He then served in the Support and Services Battalion as Unit Sergeant Major (USM) JDF Provost Unit, Depot Sergeant Major (DSM) JDF Training Depot, and Regimental Sergeant Major Permanent Staff Instructor (PSI) Third Battalion The Jamaica Regiment (National Reserve).
WO1 McKenzie is decorated with the Medal and 1st Bar to the Medal of Honour for Meritorious Service, Medal of Honour for General Service (Grenada - October 1983 to July 1985) and the Medal and 1st Bar to the Medal of Honour for Long Service and Good Conduct.
WO1 McKenzie is married to Carol-Ann and the thirty-three year union has produced one son and two daughters. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he enjoys spending quality time with his family. His hobbies are web surfing, listening to music and playing dominoes.
