Lt Colonel Andrew Fitzgerald Sewell MBA, MA, BSc (Hons)

Andrew Fitzgerald Sewell is the Commanding Officer of the Second Battalion the Jamaica Regiment (2JR). On December 08th 2008, Lt Colonel Sewell became the ninth officer to command the Battalion since its formation in 1979.

His vision for the Battalion is to inform changes that will improve the fighting effectiveness of the Unit. He is a firm believer in training and is determine that 2JR will deliver quality service to Jamaica.

Prior to assuming command of the Second Battalion the Jamaica Regiment,
Lt Col Sewell served as the Battalion Second-in-Command with direct responsibility for welfare and training. He has held several other appointments during his military career. These included Platoon Commander, Regimental Signals Officer, Adjutant, Company Commander, Force Paymaster and Officer Commanding JDF Supply Depot.

Lt Col Sewell has attended a number of professional courses to include the Regimental Signals Officer Course at Warminster in England, the Regimental Administrative Officers Course at the Adjutant’s General’s Training Center in Worthy Down Winchester, England and at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom at Shrivenham.

Lt Col Sewell holds a MBA from the Naval Post Graduate School in California, USA. He also holds a MA from Kings College in London and a Bachelors of Science Degree in Management Studies and Accounting from the University of the West Indies.

Within the Caribbean he has participated in Operation Restore Democracy (Haiti 1995) and dealt with security matters as a COPACS Staff Officer for Caribbean Cricket World Cup 07. He has also attended courses courtesy of the Pearson Peace Keeping Center, Canada and the Center for Hemispheric Defence Studies (CHDS) at the National Defence University in Washington, D.C.

Lt Colonel Sewell has a passion for humanitarian and financial matters. He is a sportsman at heart and also enjoys reading.
