JAMAICA REMEMBERS THE VETERANS OF WORLD WARS 1 AND 11

Jamaica honoured the memories of the veterans of World Wars 1 and 11 on Sunday 13 November 2004, with a Remembrance Day Parade at the National Heroes Park, Kingston, and memorial church services at parish capitals throughout the country. Heading the list of dignitaries at the Parade, who paid homage to the men and women who served in both wars, was the Head of State, His Excellency the Governor General Sir Howard Cooke. In attendance were other government officials, members of the Diplomatic Corps and commanders from the military and constabulary forces and ex-servicemen of the Jamaica Legion and the Royal Air Force Association.

The highlight of the Parade was the two-minute period of silence at 11:00 am, at which time those present were encouraged to reflect on the sacrifice and contribution made by the veterans of the wars. Following which, the Governor General took the lead in the laying of wreaths at the cenotaph honouring those who had died in the Great War. After the ceremony, the Governor General informally inspected and interacted with the veterans and ex-servicemen of the Jamaica Legion and the Royal Air Force Association.
